Director, Cheka Sana Uganda
Anslem Wandega
Anslem joined Cheka Sana Foundation as a volunteer in June 2019, when Mutani Yangwe asked him to help set up Cheka Sana Foundation Uganda. Since, Anslem has been working as a Director of Cheka Sana Uganda (as a volunteer), leading a team of 5 volunteers.
Anslem is a human rights and development management professional with over 15 years’ experience in governance, programming, strategic management, institutional development, education, livelihoods, sexual and reproductive health, sexual and gender based violence and child protection in Eastern Africa. He has successfully delivered various strategic leadership roles within the NGO sector in Sub-Sahara Africa, including Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. Anslem has a first-class honours degree from Makerere University in Kampala and an MSc in Development Management from Open University.
Programs
Bena Binoga
Bena is a social sector expert with over twelve years’ experience in design, implementation and evaluation of child-centred transformative programs especially targeting street-connected children. She successfully implemented a project funded by Eriks that rescued, rehabilitated and reintegrated over 200 child survivors of commercial sexual exploitation from the streets of Iganga, Jinja and Mukono. In addition, she spearheaded implementation of a Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs funded project titled ‘Strong Beginnings—A family for All Children’ which made significant contribution to the implementation of the Alternative Care Framework in Uganda which demonstrated a model of best practice that informed policy and catalyzed welfare reforms around alternative care in the country.
She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Uganda Christian University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management from Makerere University.
Uganda Street Children Sports Academy
Derrick Massa,
Derrick is a young, vibrant and dynamic professional with over ten years experience in the sports sector. His mission is to build sustainable capacities among marginalised children using sports as a vehicle to enable them take control of their lives, maximise life’s opportunities and present themselves in ways that inspire, impress and spur confidence in themselves and their peers, to realise their full potential. He also aspires to empower young people with information and skills on sexual reproductive health and rights to enable them make informed life choices.
He has played for several local football clubs such as Child Restoration Outreach (CRO) and Kataka FC. Derrick has also coached the U15 team of Nylon FC. He is a great fan of football and supports teams in Uganda, UK and in other parts of the world. He has extensively researched about domestic violence, self-esteem and depression among adolescents in Kampala slums.
He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Psychology from Makerere University and is an Alumni of the famous Reach A Hand Uganda’s Peer Educator’s Academy.
Administration and Support
Kabugo Ali,
Ali is a multi-disciplinary professional with over ten years’ experience in Administration and Support within the NGO setting. He has successfully worked with Plan International, Save for Health and ChildFund. He is passionate about children and especially street-connected children.
He has a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology from Kyambogo University.
